The first Advisory Board meeting of the LIFE ENSPIRE project took place on 15 June 2026
We were delighted to host the first Advisory Board meeting of the LIFE ENSPIRE project on 15 June 2026. The meeting brought together representatives of the CAKE Team and members of the LIFE ENSPIRE Advisory Board. It was held in a hybrid format, both in person at the Institute of Environmental Protection – National Research Institute (IOŚ-PIB) headquarters and online.
The meeting was opened by Robert Jeszke, Deputy Director of IOŚ-PIB for Emissions Management, who welcomed the invited guests. Subsequently, Maciej Pyrka, Head of the Strategy, Analysis and Auctions Team at KOBIZE, IOŚ-PIB and CAKE, provided an overview of the LIFE ENSPIRE project. He presented the project’s main objectives and the modelling tools being developed within the initiative.
In the second part of the meeting, CAKE modelling experts delivered detailed presentations. Jakub Boratyński presented ongoing research on the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), highlighting the most important challenges and issues associated with its implementation. Marek Antosiewicz outlined the scope of the second planned LIFE ENSPIRE study focusing on ETS markets in EU candidate countries. Key discussion topics included data availability in candidate countries, future opportunities for the use of carbon offsets in emissions compliance, as well as CBAM and potential linkages between different carbon pricing systems.
In addition to members of the CAKE Team, participants included distinguished experts such as Jos Delbeke (EUI), Monika Figaj (Energy Community), Artur Runge-Metzger (Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change in Berlin), Simone Borghesi (FSR Climate), Stefano Verde (University of Siena), Toon Vandyck (KU Leuven, CEDON), and Karsten Neuhoff (PIK Potsdam).
