CAKE i LIFE VIIEW 2050 at EUI i LIFE COASE

On June 18th, 2024 Jakub Boratyński, our CAKE modelling expert presented the latest outcomes of our work and the LIFE VIIEW 2050 project at the European University Institute Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies and LIFE COASE Workshop: “The role of carbon markets in reaching carbon neutrality”.

Jakub Boratyński delivered the presentation entitled: „Economic interaction between climate policy instruments. The role of carbon markets in reaching carbon neutrality”. During his speech he provided a brief overwiew of the LIFE VIIEW 2050 project goals and i the simulation modeling toolkit used (CGE model-d- place, MEESA- power sector model, EPICA- agricultural model, TR3E- transport model). He also presented the results of the latest LIFE VIIEW 2050 analysis, which focused on the synergies between the EU ETS and other EU climate policy measures – carbon removal, hydrogen, and transport.

The principal conclusions of the presented outcomes are presented below:

CAKE meeting with T&E and FPPE

CAKE meeting with T&E and FPPE

On May 24th, 2024, CAKE had a networking meeting with the the representatives of Transport and Environment (T&E) and Electric Vehicles Promotion Foundation (FPPE).

The CAKE Team represented by Robert Jeszke, CEO of CAKE, Igor Tatarewicz, Expert in energy sector modelling and Aneta Tylka, Expert in Promotion had a chance to meet with  Marcin Korolec, Vice President of the Board and Stef Cornelis, Director Electric Fleets Programme from the Transport & Environment (T&E) and Przemysław Sobański, Expert z Electric Vehicles Promotion Foundation (FPPE).

During the meeting Stef Cornelis, (T&E)  presented the presentation titled: “How Poland can accelerate and untap the potential of e-mobility”.

The meeting was a great occasion to discuss the challenges concerning the transformation of the transport sector and faster electification, role of taxations and supporting measures,

car and batteries industry strategies in future design of climate policy on the way to achieving climate neutrality. We especially focused on the possibilities of reducing emissions from the transport sector which will be covered by the ETS2 with the social challenges and role of the Social Climate Fund.

CAKE at EUI Climate Week 2024 in Florence

CAKE at EUI Climate Week 2024 in Florence

During 21-23 of May, Robert Jeszke, CEO of CAKE, participated in the discussion titled “State-of-play in international carbon markets 2024,” organized by the European University Institute, Florence School of Regulation, and School of Transnational Governance in Florence. This event was a key part of the EUI Climate Week 2024 in Florence.

Participants in this discussion explored recent trends in regulated carbon markets and their connections to voluntary carbon markets. In recent years, carbon taxes and Emissions Trading Systems (ETSs) have grown worldwide, but integration has been slow due to differences in design, sectoral coverage, and monitoring methods. Connections with Voluntary Carbon Markets (VCMs) have stalled over concerns about credit quality and verification. Recent findings highlighted challenges in achieving integration and consistent market regulation.

This session provided a crucial platform for exchanging insights on the progress and challenges faced in integrating emissions trading systems globally. The dialogue aimed to foster international cooperation on carbon market policies and examine how these markets can be more effectively aligned and regulated to achieve net-zero goals. This panel represented the first part of the annual NetZero Carbon Market Policy Dialogue organized under the framework of the LIFECOASE project.
